O Sapientia
Scripture:
Proverbs 3:19-20, 13-18

Congregation:
Oh Wisdom, coming down from the mouth of the Most High, pervading and permeating all things. You order all things with strength and gentleness: Come now and teach us the way to salvation.

Leader:
Today, perhaps more than ever before, there are those among us who feel that all things are not ordered mightily and tenderly, those who cannot make sense out of the situation, those who understand many things a little, but cannot fathom the deep - come! Let us say to one another: the highest wisdom about ourselves has come to us, from the most high God down to our disordered world, down to a manger, down on the cross; and this all-wise, all-understanding God has come to us as Wisdom which is with us and within us. So rejoice!

Sing:
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high, Who orders all things, far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show, And cause us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O Adonai
Scripture:
Ezekiel 34:20, 23-24

Congregation:
O Adonai, Ruler of the house of Israel, You appeared in the burning bush to Moses and gave him the law on Sinai: Come with outstretched arms to save us.

Leader:
For those here who have been left behind in a slavish Egypt, who are fearful of the desert of responsibilities, whose sea of obligations comes rushing in and threatens to overwhelm, who sense no guidance for the journey past the law of Sinai to then hope of the promised land - come! Let us say to one another: that One Who was born under the law is Himself our Shepherd who redeems us by His strong arm; and this Shepherd, Emmanuel, comes to be with us all. So rejoice!

Sing:
O come, our Shepherd, come and guide Your people scattered far and wide.
Redeem us by Your mighty arm; call us by name and save from harm.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

Radix Jesse
Scripture:
Isaiah 11:1-3

Congregation:
O Root of Jesse, rising as a sign for all the peoples, before You earthly rulers will keep silent, and nations give you honor: Come quickly to deliver us.

Leader:
For those here for whom life is burned over; who may sigh, "I'm just dead," or, "I feel like the devil," and for whom those words may be the very symptoms within - come! Let us say to one another: the God Whose judgment burns to the ground all our injustice and sin has raised up out of the charred stump the stubborn little twig, the root, the Branch of Jesse; and this God-with-us, this Emmanuel, this Vine, with all His life and vitality, is with us and within us. So rejoice!

Sing:
Oh, come now, Root of Jesse, free Your own from Satan's tyranny;
To You the kings of earth shall bow. O come and save all nations now.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

Clavis David
Scripture:
Isaiah 22:21-22

Congregation:

O Key of David, Scepter over the house of Israel, You open and no one can close; You close and no one can open: Come to set free the prisoner who lives in darkness and the shadow of death.

Leader:
For those here for whom all the portals of life seem closed, who seem unable to find the key, who fumble with the combination to heaven and hope and home - come! Let us say to one another: the combination is found with the God Who has mingled with our flesh, providing the Key Who opens His own house to us; and this Emmanuel will make His home with us and within us. So rejoice!

Sing:
Oh, come, Thou Key of David, come and open wide our heavenly home:
From depths of hell Thy people save and give them vict'ry o'er the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

Oriens
Scripture:
Isaiah 60:2-3  Luke 1:65-79

Congregation:

O Dayspring, rising Dawn, Sun of righteousness, come to enlighten all who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death: Come, Lord, to save us.

Leader:
For those here who reflect a surrounding darkness and are gloomy, who are losing the splendor of personhood, or who live in the darkness more than the light - come! Let us say to one another: there is no darkness so dark, no depth so great, that the Sun of righteousness cannot pierce, for He comes to make us splendid with His own personhood and is with us and within us. So rejoice!

Sing:
O Come now Dayspring, come and cheer our spirits by Your advent here.
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night, and death's dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

Rex Gentium
Scripture:
Psalm 47:1-9

Congregation:

O Ruler of nations, Monarch for whom the people long, You are the Cornerstone uniting all humanity: Come, save us all, whom You formed out of clay.

Leader:
For those here who feel torn asunder in the inner person, perhaps alienated from family or brother or sister or fellow church-member, or from the order of creation, or even from self - come! Let us say to one another: that Desire which you desire, the Ruler in Whom all things are united, that Reconciler Who has broken down the wall of separation, has entered our broken world to mend our alientation and set things right; and this Emmanuel is with us and within us. So rejoice!

Sing:
O Come now, King of nations, bind all peoples in one heart and mind.
Bid all our strife and discord cease, and fill our lives with heaven's peace.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O Emmanuel
Scripture:
Isaiah 7:14

Congregation:

O Emmanuel, our King, Desire of the nations and Savior of all people: Come and save us, and be our Lord and our God.

Leader:
For those here who may have sold out to private resentments, secret grudges, selfish lusts, to work, to family, to status; who are captives to anything other than our Lord Jesus Christ - come! Let us say to one another: Jesus Christ Himself has come to ransom and redeem us and make us His own sisters and brothers. He has appeared for us and promises to keep us safe until the Day of His glory; and He is with us and within us to keep us as His own. So rejoice!

Sing:
O come, O come Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here, until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

Unison Prayer:
God of grace, ever faithful to Your promises: the earth rejoices in hope of our Savior's coming and looks forward with longing to His return at the end of time. Prepare our hearts to receive Him when He comes,
for He is Lord forever and ever.

Amen.
