PW News ~ March 2016

March is coming in like a lamb - let's hope this beautiful weather continues to usher us into spring!

As March begins, we are looking forward to our Women's Retreat, Finding Your Joy, to be held March 11 - 13 at Lake Chatuge Lodge.  Although reservations have closed, you might still be able to join the group by contacting Sherri Rogers at if you hurry!

PW continues to support the Ferguson cottage for boys at Thornwell and has collected spring sporting items, including bicycles, everyday T-shirts and portable beach chairs for spring sports. It has been a joy and a blessing to be part of this ongoing mission with Thornwell.

We will soon be looking for volunteers to support next year's PW Coordinating Team (CT).  Please prayerfully consider a call to serve on the CT board!

I hope everyone enjoys your spring break (if you get one!) and celebrates a meaningful and spirit-filled Easter!

Your sister in Christ,

Beth Cotter, PW Moderator

March Mission

Thornwell was founded in 1875 by Presbyterian minister, William Jacobs, with the goals of “providing loving homes for abused, abandoned and neglected children and offer them hope for a successful future by providing a loving family environment, educational support and teaching self advocacy”. These children’s homes are in cottages where they live with other children their age. PW will support the individual children in the Ferguson Cottage (elementary boys) throughout the year, as well as have "tags" available at each circle meeting that identify more generic things needed by the entire Thornwell community. All items can be left throughout the month in the Mission’s Box in the Fireside Room.

For our elementary boys in Ferguson Cottage, we will be collecting boy’s bathing suits (Youth sizes S, M, L and XL) and beach/pool toys. Don’t forget their love for Super Heroes and sports!   More boys continue to join the cottage, we are now supporting: Jamie (6 yrs); AJ and Darion (7 yrs); Noah (9 yrs); Devin and Devin (10 yrs); and Jacob and Francisco (11 yrs)… grades 1-5.   All items can be left in the Mission Box in the Fireside Room throughout the month. Thanks to everyone for all the items you have generously donated, so far. We are adding some FUN in the lives of these children!

Looking forward to a great year of giving!

PW Book Club

PW Book Club will meet on Tuesday, March 29th, at 7:00 pm in the Fireside Room.  Our book for March is Maus I: a Survivor's Tale, a graphic novel by Art Spiegelman, multiple copies of which are available in the public library system.   Ideas shared in December and January are online at All are welcome to join us!
