PW News January 2016

PW News ~ January 2016

Happy New Year to all the women of NPC! As 2016 begins, I would like to remind everyone that there are numerous areas of outreach, mission and evangelism in which PW is involved, consider this small blurb from the PW quarterly newsletter:

Join PHP's trip to Nicaragua What are you doing January 23–30, 2016? Do you want to learn more about fair trade in the beautiful land of Nicaragua? The Presbyterian Hunger Program is accepting applications for its 2016 Nicaragua delegation. The delegation is perfect for anyone involved in a congregation, college or camp that uses Fair Trade coffee, tea or t-shirts. It’s also great for anyone who has hosted a holiday bazaar with Fair Trade products, or wants to learn more. Go to for more info or to download an application.

If your New Year's resolutions include anything involving being more active in living out your faith, PW offers almost countless opportunities to get involved!

On the local level, we continue to teach, to learn, to discuss, to pray, and to support each other in our own faith journeys. Never been active in PW? Drop in on a Circle meeting. Looking for good conversation? Try book club! Want to pamper yourself, make new friendships and deepen your relationship with God? Sign up for the Women's Retreat!

Mission of the Month

For January, each circle will be making sandwiches for the Open Door Community of Atlanta. This program serves breakfast and lunches and provides showers, free medical clinic, and worship services to Atlanta’s homeless. Please bring the following items to your circle: whole wheat bread; sandwich meat (not bologna); sliced cheese. Join us as we make sandwiches together.

For our elementary boys in Ferguson Cottage at Thornwell, we will continue to collect assorted sporting items (for example: balls, bats, table tennis balls and racquets, jump ropes, Frisbees, sport drinks and snacks) ... be creative ... for their approaching Spring!

We are supporting Sandy (5th grade), Jay, Devin S., and Devin W. (4th grade); Dre and Noah (3rd grade); AJ (2nd grade); and Jamie (1st grade). Also available at each circle meeting, there will be ‘tags’ that identifies more generic things needed by the entire Thornwell community. All items can be left in the Mission Box in the Fireside Room throughout the month.

Each February, we send Valentine goodies to our college students and homebound seniors. A donation envelope and address signup sheet will be at each January meeting. You can also email Jeanne Patterson at or call 770-856-5879 with the name and address of anyone you would like to receive a fun Valentine surprise!

Looking forward to a great year of giving!
