PW News February 2016

PW News ~ February 2016

Does it FEEL like February to you?  This weather is creating some confusion in my garden, and I imagine that it is creating some dissonance in our lives as well!  The good news is that neither Punxsutawney Phil nor Gen. Beauregard Lee saw his shadow on Groundhog’s Day, so spring should be arriving early this year!  This prediction bodes well for the Women's Retreat, which is planned for the weekend of March 11 - 13 at Lake Chatuge Lodge in Hiawassee.  If you haven't made your reservation yet, please do so immediately as the time is rapidly approaching!

Yesterday was the annual budget-planning meeting for the Coordinating Team of PW.  The interesting thing about this meeting is that it wasn't, contrary to some expectations, boring.  Instead, it was an enjoyable review and preview of all the many activities, missions, and Bible studies that PW engages in.  If you are looking for something to fill a spiritual hole in your life (and who doesn't have one of those?), consider joining in on the next PW activity.  Whether you enjoy reading for pleasure, searching for truths in Scripture, sharing in on-going mission activities, retreating, or simply relaxing in the loving company of friends, you will find a special welcome and rest in PW activities.

If you're already active in PW, consider taking on a leadership role in your Circle, in Bible Study, or on the Coordinating Team.  There are many opportunities and ways in which to share your unique gifts.  The Search committee will soon begin looking for the next group of leaders.  If you feel called to serve in any capacity, please don't be shy but speak up!  We all need you!

In Christ,

Beth Cotter, PW Moderator

Mission of the Month

Thornwell was founded in 1875 by Presbyterian minister, William Jacobs, with the goals of “providing loving homes for abused, abandoned and neglected children and offer them hope for a successful future by providing a loving family environment, educational support and teaching self advocacy”. These children’s homes are in cottages where they live with other children their age. PW will support the individual children in the Ferguson Cottage (elementary boys) throughout the year, as well as have "tags" available at each circle meeting that identify more generic things needed by the entire Thornwell community. All items can be left throughout the month in the Mission’s Box in the Fireside Room.

For our elementary boys in Ferguson Cottage, we will be collecting everyday t-shirts, (Youth sizes S, M, L and XL) and portable beach chairs for spring sports. Don’t forget their love for Super Heroes and sports!   More boys continue to join the cottage, we are now supporting: Jamie (6 yrs); AJ and Darion (7 yrs); Noah (9 yrs); Devin and Devin (10 yrs); and Jacob and Francisco (11 yrs)… grades 1-5.   All items can be left in the Mission Box in the Fireside Room throughout the month. Thanks to everyone for all the items you have generously donated, so far. We are adding some FUN in the lives of these children!

Also, through your generosity, we are sending 21 Valentine packages to our college kids and over 20 cards, made by our Sunday school children, to our senior and home bound members this month J

Looking forward to a great year of giving!

PW Retreat: March 11-13, 2016

 "Finding Your Joy"

"Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." Psalm 90:14

How differently would your life be if you purposefully looked for JOY every day?  How would it impact your life and the lives of those around you?  What JOY do you bring to other people with your gifts and talents?  What are some practical hands-on ways to give and receive JOY?  What does the Bible tell us about JOY?

If these questions speak to you, please join us for the NPC Presbyterian Women-sponsored annual Women's Retreat at beautiful Lake Chatuge Lodge.  ALL women and friends are invited to participate in this weekend of study, fellowship, and fun!

  • $190 per woman for a shared room with 2 Queen-sized beds
  • $285 per woman for a single room with 1 King-sized bed
  • Cost includes 2 nights stay at Lake Chatuge Lodge, 2 breakfasts, light snacks, 2 dinners, and study materials.
