PW News ~ April 2016

Hello Ladies of NPC!

April brings not only showers but also lots of busy-ness into our lives-- spring holidays, taxes, end-of-year testing, yard work, spring-cleaning, and the list goes on!  It can be easy to get caught up in the many tasks facing us and to forget God's presence in our lives.

And yet, April is also the time when God shines His love upon us abundantly-- in the glories of nature around us: the longer, warmer days, the many shades of green surrounding us, the new life awakening in budding plants, the shouts and laughter of children playing outdoors again, nesting ducks and geese. I'm sure that we all have our own favorite signs of spring and of God's love for Creation.

At the same time, each person has her own burdens to bear that don't disappear just because the seasons change. When the burdens become heavy is the time to remember that we have one another for support and encouragement.  PW is a place where women come to support and care for one another through Bible study, prayer, missions, and sharing.  I strongly encourage all women of NPC to take advantage of the love offered through on-going PW activities and events.

The Birthday Gathering, which is scheduled for May 3rd at 7:00 pm, includes an evening meal, a brief service, and an introduction to the women who will be leading PW activities in the coming year.

I courage all NPC women to put the Gathering on your calendars now and plan to attend!

See you there!

Beth Cotter, PW Moderator

April Mission

Thornwell was founded in 1875 by Presbyterian minister, William Jacobs, with the goals of “providing loving homes for abused, abandoned and neglected children and offer them hope for a successful future by providing a loving family environment, educational support and teaching self advocacy”. These children’s homes are in cottages where they live with other children their age. PW will support the individual children in the Ferguson Cottage (elementary boys) throughout the year, as well as have "tags" available at each circle meeting that identify more generic things needed by the entire Thornwell community. All items can be left throughout the month in the Mission’s Box in the Fireside Room.

For April, we will collect specific items for the entire Thornwell community:

  • batteries,
  • liquid detergent
  • snacks
  • postage stamps
  • thank you note cards
  • pot holders
  • dish towels
  • bath mats.

For our elementary boys in Ferguson Cottage, we will collect (Youth sizes S, M, L and XL):

  • summer pajamas
  • t-shirts

We are supporting: Jamie (6 yrs); AJ and Darion (7 yrs); Noah (9 yrs); Devin and Devin (10 yrs); and Jacob and Francisco (11 yrs)… grades 1-5.

All items can be left in the Mission Box in the Fireside Room throughout the month. Thanks to everyone for all the items you have generously donated, so far. We are adding some FUN in the lives of these children!

Looking forward to a great year of giving!
