PW ENews November 2014

A Word from Our Moderator

Dear Women of Northminster,

How did it get to be November already?! The Halloween candy is a mere memory (my scales help me remember it!) and now we’re looking forward to special holiday gatherings with friends and family. In this month of Thanksgiving, I am very thankful for the friendships that I have developed over the years through participation in various PW activities. Also, I am thankful for this opportunity to spread the word to any and all who might choose this season to join us for a morning Bible study or an evening of crafting or a dinner out with a fun bunch of women. Through our friendships with each other, we share the love of Christ and encourage one another along our faith journeys. I hope you can join us!

Your Sister in Christ,

Nancy Thompson, Moderator

PW Fellowship – Let’s get crafty

It has been brought to our attention that the Christmas tree in the sanctuary could use some more adornments, so we are going to do what we can to help out.  The decorations on our tree are called Chrismons, which are Christmas ornaments with Christian symbols on them, often made in a white and gold color scheme (as ours are).  The basic materials used to make them are felt and beads and needle and thread, with extra touches added at times.  If you are someone who enjoys working with your hands and have basic sewing or embroidery skills, you can do this.  Tina Page will join us to show some examples and help with organizing patterns and materials to get us started.  All you need to do is show up.

For those not inclined to working with needle and thread, we will also be helping Beth Wise get kids’ crafts organized for the Cookies with Santa program. If you can follow directions and do some simple cutting, you can help.

Time:  Monday, November 10, 2014 – 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Place:  Home of Nancy Thompson, 440 Sassafras Lane, Roswell – 770-642-9300

Bring: Scissors, white thread and sewing needles, if you have them

PW Missions

For November we will continue to collect items for the children at Thornwell, specifically supporting the Pre K cottage. We are collecting winter hats/gloves and new/slightly used clothing for the preschool aged children (3 – 6 yrs) in the Stewart Cottage. Look for a list of other needs for this cottage on the PW bulletin board. These items can be left in the Mission Box in the Fireside Room throughout the month.

We will also be supporting the annual PW sponsored Thank Offering which gives women a tangible way to express their gratitude for the special blessings in their lives. The PW Thank Offering originated in the late 1800s with Eliza Clokey of Springfield, Ohio. Her plan was to ask each woman to give a gift in addition to her usual contribution as a “thank offering to our Lord.” Today this offering funds projects such as agricultural development, child care, community organization, criminal justice, drug counseling, economic justice, elderly care, employment training, homelessness, literacy, violence and women’s concerns. A collection envelope will be available at each circle meeting and in the PW box.

As we look forward to December, please mark your calendars for Cookies with Santa on Sunday, December 7th, following the annual Christmas pageant and family potluck dinner. This is such a fun evening for the children in our church and day school with cookie decorating, small crafts, and pictures with Santa. We have plenty of opportunities to volunteer for this fun outreach and would love your help. Stay tuned for information about how to sign up!

Looking forward to a great year of giving!
