Studying Book of Revelation, but open to all.
Join us for a thought-provoking, informative documentary about the biblical notion of “the rapture.” In this 1999 A&E documentary, scholars and lay people explore such frequently asked questions as:
- Why do so many believe “the rapture” is about to occur?
- From where do these ideas originate?
- Are rapture-type passages in Scripture metaphorical/symbolic or literal?
- Who is “the beast?” the “whore of Bablyon?” What does 666 mean?
- Is the “mark of the beast” woven into the $20 bill?
The film looks at some of the outcomes of rapture-thinking in our time:
- The Great Disappointment of 1843
- David Karesh and the Branch Davidians
- Ruby Ridge
- Heaven’s Gate suicide

February Book Review
In his debut novel, Jamie Ford in The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet explores the age-old conflicts between father and son, the beauty and sadness of what happened to Japanese Americans in the Seattle area during World War II, and the depths and longing of deep-heart love. This novel is told from the perspective of Henry Lee, a 12-year-old Chinese boy living in the Chinese/Japanese International District of Seattle during the war years, and then as an adult in the 1980’s searching to recapture friendship with his Japanese girlfriend of 40 year ago while reconciling his own family relationships.
Touching, sad and poignant this book was rated 7 ½ by PWBC members.
