Reading the Bible Again For The First Time
Taught by Dave Jones and Senior Pastor Patrick Day in the Room 138
Do you have family members or friends who have left the church or who disapprove of your involvement because they don’t believe that the Bible was literally true? Or are you more of the belief that “the Bible is true, and some of it actually happened?"
Do you believe that the Bible can be true without being factually inerrant? How about true without being exclusively true? Should the historical and cultural context of the time during which the Bible was written influence our interpretation?
Perhaps most importantly, does it matter in terms of how we lead our lives as Christians? These are some of the issues that we will address during the next term of the class. Diverse opinions will be welcomed and respected.
Caffeine and Conversation
in the Fellowship Hall
This group is for those who feel the need to simply gather and have grown-up conversations on Sunday morning. Drop off the young ones for Way Cool or Youth Sunday School and come by for a caffeinated beverage and a breakfast treat.
The Origin of Satan
Taught by Beth Cotter and Carolyn Christie in the Room 139
Using Elaine Pagels’ book of the same name, this class will come to understand how the gospel of love could coexist with hatred that has haunted Christians and non-Chritians alike for two thousand years.
"In the Beginning...."
Taught by John Vaughan in Room 137
If you have ever said "I wish I knew more about the Bible." -- now is your chance. We will be starting "in the beginning" reading Genesis and will learn of the beginning of the world and about our relationship with God. This class is perfect for people who can only make it sometimes, because each class will bring new lessons and discoveries, even if you have not "kept up".
Absolutely, no knowledge of the Bible is needed; just a desire to learn more about the scripture. The class will have people will widely different biblical perspectives and knowlede-levels. You probably already own the "textbook" for this class, but if not, we can even provide you with that. Check out the In the Beginning Class Blog!
