Becoming a Member

We're pleased that you are interested in becoming a part of the Northminster church family.  A good place to start is by attending worship on Sunday and stopping by the Visitors' table in the narthex after the service.  There, you will find someone who can provide you with information about the church and be happy to answer your questions.  We also encourage you to provide your contact information when you visit Northminster so that we can be in contact with you and have an opportunity to get to know you as you get to know Northminster.

New Members are formally received into membership throughout the year.  Inquirers are invited to a series of three required classes called Membership Matters:

  • The first is "Who is Your Lord and Savior?".  This is a brief history of the church, an overview of our community's beliefs, what membership entails, discussion of reasons to join a church and what a profession of faith is.
  • The second is "Do You Trust in Him?".  Inquirers will be matched with a covenant partner (individual or family of similar interests) who will serve as your mentor during the membership process.  The content of the second class will be what the community seeks to believe and what trust in Christ means
  • The third class is "Do You Promise to be Jesus' Faithful Disciple and to Serve the Church Wherever You May Be?".  This class will discuss the responsibilities of membership, how to serve the church and the kingdom of God and how the community can be like a family.

On the Sunday following the conclusion of these classes, you will meet with the your covenant partners and church leadership for a welcome reception, where you will be officially received into membership before being presented to the congregation at the 11:15 worship service.  You may become a member of Northminster by affirmation of faith (if you have never been baptized), reaffirmation of faith (if you have been baptized, but away from the worship and fellowship of the church), or by transfer of your letter of membership from another Christian church.

Church membership asks a lot of us - it is a joy to be shared and a life to be lived.
