What are you doing March 18, 2012? Can I answer that question for you?
Come run with us!
We are looking for people who are willing to put one foot in front of the other for 13.1 or 26.2 miles to help our brothers and sisters in need around the world.
Over the last two years a group of runners from NPC have raised over $11,000 for Cystic Fibrosis and Alzheimer’s research.
This year we are joining up with Team World Vision to help bring clean water to those who don’t have it. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
World Vision has been working in East Africa for many years providing clean water, food, education and long-term assistance to communities in need. Many communities in East Africa are facing the worst drought in decades and are in desperate need of help, and many of the projects World Vision currently supports are in areas hardest hit by the drought, in countries like Kenya and Ethiopia. Team World Vision is committed to raising money to help provide clean water to these communities in Africa.
When a community gains access to clean water:
- Child mortality rates drop by half
- Children can attend school instead of looking for water
- Women can care for their families instead of gathering water
- The amount of disease decreases
- Crops and livestock thrive
In Haiti over 200,000 people lost their lives and millions were displaced from their homes, but World Vision was able to respond within hours with immediate assistance. Now, families in Haiti are beginning to recover and rebuild, but the need is still great. With more than 1 million people still living in displacement camps, where the threat of cholera and other diseases remains, World Vision continues to make water and sanitation efforts a top priority, along with the long-term goal of equipping families to be self-sufficient.
Exactly How Your Money Helps
- Install large-scale water piping systems
- Dig clean water wells
- Install latrines
- Learn proper sanitation practices to prevent disease
